This page includes birds from New England—other than coastal species– as well as a few from New York City and the Hudson River Valley.  A fair number are from the Pioneer Valley around Northampton, Mass., where we live on the Connecticut River, which flows southward from Canada and separates Vermont and New Hampshire.   There is a Common Loon with its chick from Maine, and a Ruffed Grouse on its nest in Vermont.  Otherwise nearly all the birds are passerines— small perching birds, including a few warblers (more of them are the Ontario page).
